Robinson does a great job writing about the personal lives of many returning characters...and of course, Alan Banks. I agree with others in that the reduction of the ongoing lists of what's being listened to filling up the pages was reduced can only be a plus, as is the demise of spoilt brat Sophie. Yet because of these qualities he sometimes went outside of his correct place. But then the plots became predictable, the writing stale, and the recurring characters boring. Pregnancy does not fit into Maxie’s plan at the moment. The Banks series includes a number of well-plotted, compelling books, but this book and the one previous - All the Colors of Darkness - indicate growing fatigue, a typical challenge when mysteries rely heavily on putting the investigator lead through personal trials and tribulations.

Regardless, I enjoyed reading something a bit different for once. We've all met him, right? Predictable. [Please note: This review contains some minor spoilers, but nothing beyond what is described in the tease on the back of the book. The husband, in the house recovering from knee surgery, is tasered and subsequently dies of a heart attack.
I’m speaking for the guy who works at the restaurant, the cleaners, the locker room attendants. This time, Inspector Banks' daughter has gotten involved with a "bad boy" and the only excitement is whether he will find her in time. This story grips the reader from the beginning and holds them right until the end with emotions pouring out in all directions, wonderful story. Bad Boy is one of my favourite episodes from the DCI Banks TV series, so I was pleased to find the novel equally gripping. In this one, it’s more a race to the finish to see what the outcome is. First, my thanks to LibraryThing's early reviewer program and to Morrow for my copy of this book.First, my thanks to LibraryThing's early reviewer program and to Morrow for my copy of this book.I have read Peter Robinson since his first Alan Banks procedural. He divides his time between Toronto and England. Although it never occurred to me to want to hear anything from her voice, I was interested to hear Tracy's perspective after 19 books. Bright tractors ploughed in the stubble and turned the earth a dark fecund brown. At the beginning I found her extremely irritating and felt like giving her a good shake for being so stupid, but then again it is her actions that make the story. She's 24, purportedly smart, and has been living as an independent adult for some years, and yet Robinson has her behaving like a 15-year-old with a concussion in the early going. I was happy to find Peter Robinson after reviewing authors on goodreads. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading Bad Boy: An Inspector Banks Novel (Inspector Banks series Book 19). I like Peter Robinson's style of writing and the realism of his people, and this is one of his better books. But I’m sitting out for the people, for my Aussies, for the hundreds and thousands of Americans who have lost their lives.
