A local television station reported yesterday that Sunnyside Retirement Community has 14 coronavirus cases and an outbreak is currently in progress. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with our employee and their family.King’s Grant has been following the CDC and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) guidelines for infection control and prevention, such as increasing the frequency of sanitation in community spaces and on high touch surfaces, restricting visitation, encouraging social distancing through the modification of services, wearing masks, cancelling on-campus events, and executing additional safety measures.Sunnyside was notified today that another employee in health care has tested positive for COVID-19. The hospital contacted Sunnyside late afternoon on June 1 to say the individual had tested positive for COVID-19.Sunnyside officials immediately reported the case to the Virginia Department of Health and the local health department, as is required, and are following their recommendations. The resident has been in the hospital since June 2 for reasons unrelated to COVID-19.Sunnyside has been working closely with the Virginia Department of Health to determine who may have come in contact with the resident and following their recommendations. According to VDH, “A PPS is a snapshot that identifies who might have been exposed to a specific infectious disease, regardless of who is exhibiting symptoms at that time.” The survey will be completed in one day with results expected quickly.King’s Grant was also selected to have a PPS performed for all of its residents and staff.
