I helped out in a family antique business and was in dozens of towns and villages on buying trips. I hope they reconsider as part of the reason for watching is because of Cornwall and the beautiful scenery and for me New Zealand will not come close!!! Not forgetting the rich mining history was the inspiration for the stories behind the drama. Wild and windswept Bodmin Moor is the location of Ross Poldark’s cottage, Nampara. It is soooo worth it. The abandoned buildings at Botallack provide the perfect stand in for the Poldark family mines of Wheal Leisure (in reality Wheal Owles) and Grambler (Wheal Crowns).The buildings give a fascinating insight into Cornish mining history.

As a daughter of a Cornishman it's difficult to accept that some location filming is not in Cornwall! Paths either side of the beach reveal the dramatic ruins of Wheal Coates and Charlotte United Engine House. His house, Trewithen, (almost an anagram of Trenwith,) is near Truro and still lived in by descendants of the Hawkins family.
